Paradise season 2 has officially wrapped filming, which means there may well be not long to wait for the gritty political thriller to return to our screens.
Season 1 followed Secret Service agent, Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), as he tried to work out who killed the President after a shock murder in the very first episode. Oh, and it turns out they’re all living in a billionare-owned underground bunker are an apocalyptic event took place up on the surface of the Earth.
The drama unfolded not only around Cal’s death, but also around the bunker and Paradise as a whole. There’s still a lot to unwrap, but fortunately with Paradise season 2 on the way, here’s everything we know so far from predicted release date, new and returning cast, plot rumors and more.
Full spoilers follow for Paradise season 1.
Paradise season 2 release date
Paradise season 2 was officially renewed on February 10, 2025 and, in true Paradise fashion, the show’s star Sterling K. Brown revealed the news on the palm of his hand.
And while there’s no release date just yet, the show’s creator Dan Fogelman told Deadline there’s a potential release window when comparing it to season 1: “So if we came out in early 2025, hopefully the next season’s out by early 2026.”
And it looks like the cast and crew have officially wrapped filming with Sterling K. Brown taking to his personal Instagram to show the last day on set in late August.
In the clip, he says, “We’re trying to give you something as good, if not better, the second time around.” Adding in the caption: “Trust that you are not prepared for what’s to come.”
So, it looks like they’re well on track for a potential early 2026 release for Paradise season 2. Watch this space.
Paradise season 2 trailer: is there one?
There’s no Paradise season 2 trailer just yet and that’s not surprising news considering we don’t have a release date.
But, there was some first look footage shown exclusively to San Diego Comic-Con attendees in July, according to Variety, but it’s been very much kept under wraps, aside from telling us there’s a sneak peek of a new character (which I’ll reveal below).
What we do know is that the first official trailer for season 1 came out in November, before the show premiered in January 2025.
So, if all the release date info we’ve managed to gather so far is pointing towards an early 2026 release, we may not have to wait too much longer for a trailer. When it drops, I’ll be sure to update here.
Paradise season 2 confirmed cast
It seems that the main cast should be returning for Paradise season 2, plus a flurry of new characters will be joining the show:
- Sterling K. Brown as Xavier Collins
- Julianne Nicholson as Sinatra
- Nicole Brydon Bloom as Jane Driscoll
- Krys Marshall as Agent Robinson
- Sarah Shahi as Dr Gabriela Torabi
- Aliya Mastin as Presley Collins
- Percy Daggs IV as James Collins
- Charlie Evans as Jeremy
- Richard Robichaux as Carl
- Enuka Okuma as Dr Teri Rogers-Collins
- Gerald McRaney as Kane Bradford
- Matt Malloy as Henry Baines
- Shailene Woodley as TBC
- Thomas Doherty as Link
- Michael McGrady as Geiger
- Timothy Omundson as Chef
- Raymond Chan Jr as TBC
- Ryan Michelle Bathé as TBC
Shailene Woodley was confirmed to be joining Paradise season 2, as per Deadline, in an undisclosed role and, as part of the SDCC first look, fans saw her briefly as a tour guide at Elvis Presley’s Graceland.
And Woodley isn’t the only one joining for season 2 with an abundance of new cast members also announced, including Gossip Girl’s Thomas Doherty (per Variety) and many more.
We do know of a couple of characters not returning for season 2 though, namely Trent and Billy, who met their demise in season 1.
But, there’s still curiosity about whether James Marsden, as deceased President Cal Bradford, will be making a return.
In season 1, despite dying in the first episode, he appeared throughout the show in a series of flashbacks. And, speaking with Vanity Fair, he could be returning, possibly in a larger capacity: “I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say. Even though my vague answer to your question is probably the answer to your question.”
And after the success of the show, he adds: “…I got a text from Dan going, “well, maybe you aren’t dead.” I don’t want to give false hope here that I’m somehow alive, but maybe we can figure something out.”
Paradise season 2 synopsis and story rumors
Major spoilers follow for Paradise season 1.
Paradise season 2 looks set to pick up where season 1 left off with a lot of questions answered and a lot still remaining. And viewers watched as Xavier headed outside of the bunker in search of his wife, Teri, which will no doubt be where season 2 starts.
What we also finally know from the season 1 finale is who killed the President, spoiler alert, Trent the librarian, we’re looking at you. Plus, viewers watched as billionaire Sinatra ruled over Paradise, hiding dirty secrets and covering up the bunker’s history
But, Trent and Sinatra weren’t the only villains in Paradise, enter Jane. Acting as a doubt agent between Xavier and Sinatra, eventually shooting Sinatra in the neck in a tumultuous season 1 finale and saving Xavier’s daughter. It’s pretty unclear where her loyalties lie right now.
For Jane in season 2, there’s an entire episode dedicated just to her. Fogelman told THR: “Our sixth episode of season 2 is called ‘Jane,’ and it tells her story.” A Jane origin story? Sign me up.
And when it comes to season 2 as a whole, Fogelman told Deadline he has big plans: “It’s fair to say we solved all the questions about what the bunker is and why it was created in Season 1, but there’s kind of a deepening of it as you get into Season 2 and what’s really behind it all.
“There’s more science fiction in it in the second season intentionally than even was in the first. And that involves climate change and science and the things that were coming behind it. There is more of that kind of survivalist [story]. How did the people that made it out in the world outside of the bunker do it? And we explore that in the season.”
And, we also know that Xavier is heading above ground. Speaking also with Deadline, Brown teased that life outside of the bunker is a focus of season 2: “There will be an exploration of the world outside of the bunker and what’s transpired over the past three years, so you’ll get a chance to see some things up close and personal. It’s not the same. We were able to plan, with infrastructure and money. They were not, so you’ll see the difference between those two things.”
Brown also revealed that we’ll find out whether his wife, Teri, is alive and, if she turns out to be well, what her survival looks like on the outside. So, as Xavier ventures out to the surface and life in the bunker continues, there’s plenty more to unravel in Paradise season 2.
Will there be more seasons of Paradise?
If creator Dan Fogelman has anything to do with it, there will most definitely be more Paradise to come. One more season, at least.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Fogelman said: “We have this very precise three-year plan, and this next season coming is kind of the middle episode of our trilogy with also its own beginning, middle and end.”
Revealing: “We have a three-season story that’s bigger than what people think it is right now, and it’s going to span a couple of genres.”
So, a season 3 seems very likely, but there’s been no official news yet. We’ll keep our fingers crossed!
